Music and my life
I have been frantically updating and improving my stereo system after years of being unable to enjoy it due to a fucking asshole of a neighbor whilst I was living at Chateau Orleans. I really didn't understand just how much I require music. When it was taken away from me, I slowly began to sink into a state of perpetual depression. It's as if I depend on music to exist, or at least exist in a happy state!
This neighbor was a pitiful excuse for a man. No balls at all. When I would attempt to play music, even at under 65 dB, he wouldn't come to me but instead he would call the police. They showed up many, many times but could never hear any loud, disruptive music. But after awhile, they were gonna have to fine me based on Jackass' complaints. It was at this point I moved all listening to my desk via headphones. This wasn't a great solution, but it sufficed. The neighbor got so wound up he would bang on the wall at ANY noise, even my TV! It became unbearable so I decided to move into a rental house - no more apartments. That was the best decision I could have made. The effects on my spirit, mood and outlook has improved dramatically. I feel like myself again.

I have not been brewing lately, though I am getting the itch again. As I was perusing my photos, I came across some beer labels that a friend created for me. As I pick out my next couple of recipes for beer and wine to make, I will see if my friend Art would be so kind as to create some new labels. Maybe it'll be fun for him.

Junip at The EARL
The Junip show last night was great. The lead singer was out in the audience during the opening bands performance and he was signing autographs and allowing people to get pictures with him.
Although the stage was tiny, it didn't effect their performance one bit. They were one of the tightest bands I have heard in quite awhile. The bass and drums were strong but musical; not overpowering. The keyboardist jammed on his Moog Prodigy all the while looking as though he was having a blast!
My only complaint was that the show was short, just at an hour. But since they only have but one album, that makes since. I'll post a setlist if I can remember it.

Geminitactics prints

Apple event today
Well, it seems Apple has called a press conference today at 9AM in reference to a iTunes announcement. I suspect it'll be about 1 or more of the folowing:
1. The Beatles on iTunes (like it matters anymore)
2. iTunes in "the cloud"
3. Possible, but unlikely, is iTunes Subscription service
We shall see!

It was only in regards to The Beatles being sold on iTunes. Oh well. Nothing earth shattering....
At this point, who is the target audience for selling the Fab Four on iTunes?? Most adults have the CD's and if they are using iTunes, have probably imported them already. Kids??? No way. Not unless they acquired the taste from their parents CD collection. I'm sure The Beatles will sell well on iTunes for a short while, but it will soon taper off. I bet within 6 months, the number of downloads puts them in line with most other bands from that era, maybe at the top for that genre/era.

Record reviews
I think I am going to start posting reviews of my favorite albums, both new and old. I'll start with a review of the latest of Montreal album, False Priest. We'll see how it goes from there. If I keep up with it, maybe I'll do movie reviews too.
Brewing
I gotta brew some beer and wine soon!!!! First, I must get that camp burner cart from Academy....
Next, what shall I brew? I should try a red wine instead of another Viognier. Beer-wise, I'm not so sure. Maybe a quick brew and a longer, aged Belgium. I really need to find a old fridge for kegging.

It went well
I must say, the little shindig Saturday night went extremely well. I believe everyone had a great time and it was really nice getting all of us together. The party also turned into a birthday party of sorts for Cayla, who's bday was the following day. Jamie made a butterfly cake and we all sang Happy Birthday. It was really sweet.
Let's see...who came? The Huttos, Art & Caren, Anna, Cayla and her childhood friend Angie. Jamie and Marion. Everyone seemed to enjoy each others company and the food was plentiful and delicious. I ended up making a vegetable soup that turned out great, so I felt better about all eating. I found out that my house is well suited to having company, so I wanna do this more often.

Party

Deerhunter & The Bottletree
Man, what a disappointment tonight. Marion & I went to the Bottletree to see Deerhunter. OK. Should be fun, right? Instead, they spoke to us (the whole crowd) like we were morons before they would let the crowd in the door. After the long wait to get in, we found that the kitchen was closed early, which was a major disappointment. We then grabbed the only table in the place.
The first act, Deacon from Animal Collective, came onstage without introduction or any que as to his beginning the set. Also, there were NO lights on him or the stage during his performance.
Anyway, we were not have any fun so we left to get some food. Unless it is a band I must see, I'll not return to the Bottletree....

Wow.
That was one HELL of a good show last Saturday night. They played at the Variety Playhouse in Little 5 Points Atlanta, GA. Maybe the best sounding show I have ever heard. Even better than Devo.

Am I the lazyest sod, or what? Plus, concert updates.
OK. I really must state that I had every intention of keeping this blog up to date, but alas I have not. So, starting today, I am going to post at least once a week....
I have been on a concert going frenzy as of late. I have seen Devo, of Montreal and MGMT. I had tickets to Massive Attack and Thievery Corp, but I missed the show. Upcoming shows are of Montreal (again) and Deerhunter. I am also contemplating going to see Junip at the end of the month, it all depends on financing.
The of Montreal concert in Nashville was quite disappointing. The venue, Cannery Ballroom, was terrible. The stage was far so low as to prohibit viewing of the inventive production and, most irritating, the sound was wretched. As always, the band put on a great performance but it was marred by the venue issues. Here is the setlist from that night:

The opening act, Janelle Monae, was absolutely breathtaking! It may be one of the best opening acts I have ever had the pleasure of seeing (even better than The Devlins act at the Sarah McLaughlin(?) concert from around 1998). The energy and inventiveness of her performance mirrored that of of Montreal's stage production (that's saying a lot!). I am looking forward to the Atlanta show this Saturday.
My friends Cayla, Jamie and Marion accompanied me to this show. As always, it was a wild ride!

Been awhile
It's been awhile since I last posted to my blog. I wanna get better at keeping this up to date.
Anyway, I went a saw of Montreal again last Tuesday. They played in Oxford, MS and my friend Jaime went with me. We had a blast. She's a great partner for road trips. Once again, the show was fantastic, though I wish they had used the same stage production that they had the first time I saw them with Cayla in Atlanta. Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself. I am even thing about going to New Orleans next month to see them again.
I have been seeing my old dear friend Hutto lately. It has been wonderful hooking up with him and Barbara. We fell right back into place like the years apart had not happened. He too is getting back into vinyl. So this Friday I will be seeing them and I want to help him setup his new turntable. We shall see...
